Carlinville is located approximately 50 miles east-northeast of St. Louis and is the first major passenger stop for all GM&O passenger trains outside of St. Louis. All passenger trains stop here! Current day Amtrak trains in Lincoln Service call at an "Amshack" located on the site of the former GM&O depot which was demolished in the early 1990's.
