Located just north of downtown Lincoln, Athol is the location where the GM&O crosses both the Illinois Central and Illinois Terminal. On the Eastern Division we feature live interchange at several locations. With the renovations and redesign the town of Lincoln and Athol are nearly three times longer than previously modeled. The IC line extends into the furnace room (aka Dispatcher's Office) and a single interchange train works off of the Illinois Central picking up and setting out cars for the GM&O here. The Illinois Terminal's Springfield Line crosses both GM&O and IC at Athol and the wires are still up at this time in the line's life but there aren't many more years for the I.T. electric service left!!!
